For 20 years and counting, San Chez Bistro has offered its Grand Rapids customers a unique dining and entertainment experience.
The adventure started in 1990, when the founders of San Chez were on the prowl for an interesting concept for a restaurant. They discovered for all the variety of tastes to be found, no one seemed to be doing anything with tapas. So they set out to create a venue with a smothering blend of Mediterranean and European cuisine in an artful and fun atmosphere.
Tapas are a culinary legend out of Spain. It originated as interesting toppings — bread, sausage or cheese — for drinks. Gradually, tapas would transition into any number of foodstuffs, representing cold and light hors d’oeuvres to a full, hot meal.
In 1992, San Chez Bistro opened to the public. Customers took to the ambiance and food of Spain immediately. It became the go-to eatery for entertaining West Michigan visitors and a regular spot for residents. Thankfully. The owners didn’t simply design a place to eat. They wanted a great place to eat with a friendly, laid back service people weren’t going to find anywhere else. They wanted customers to keep coming back not just for the food, but the atmosphere.
They’ve succeeded. With 20 years and counting, San Chez’s reputation still shines through and through. The owners aren’t resting on their laurels either. They continue to innovate and experiment, looking for new ways to draw new customers in while keeping loyal customers returning to see what could possibly be next. San Chez tries to make enjoying fine food as amazing and fun as it gets. Besides a top notch, courteous staff and outstanding dining opportunities, they offer classes, recipes and tips that can be taken home. The San Chez calendar strives to be appealing with offerings like Dinner in the Dark, PechaKucha Night and Knife Skills.
If you’re visiting the West Michigan area or you’re lucky enough to live here, skip the fast food and take a table at San Chez Bistro, or the nearby San Chez Café. They support local business vehemently, always looking for ways to incorporate local produce and other products into their day to day routine. They have a menu for vegans, the lactose intolerant and those with gluten allergies. They have a series of healthy options with the freshest ingredients.
Come on by San Chez Bistro and help them celebrate the next 20 years.
