Visitors to Grand Rapids this year will be able to join the biggest Christmas lights display in Michigan. The display is an annual tradition that brings kids and adults alike to celebrate the holiday season. This year’s display will be over a mile long, with thousands of lights and decorations. The event has been running for 18 years, and this year will be no less special than all of the years past.

Nite Lites is a drive through display, which means that families can stay in the warmth of their cars while driving through this enormous Christmas display. There will be holiday themed decorations such as colorful Christmas trees, lights, and Christmas ornaments and statues.

Food and drink will be available at the event as well. Come to get a glass of eggnog or hot chocolate as you talk with other community members.

A very special part of the festival is the Christmas Tree Decorating competition. Local groups can decorate a tree in support of any local charity. Patrons of the Nite Lites festival can vote on any tree they like by means of a monetary donation. The tree with the largest amount of donations wins the contest. This is a great way to support the local charities, while also bringing joy and camaraderie to the community during the Christmas season. Over the past few years, this contest has raised over $30,000 for the local charities.
Nite Lites is also a wonderful event for the children of Kent County. One of the biggest events for children is Santa’s appearance and personal visits with the children. Each child will have the chance to sit on his lap and tell him their Christmas wishes. Visits with Santa are free, and photos can be taken with him for a small charge. Other activities for children include a holiday themed puppet show and train rides for kids.

The event will run from November 28th to December 30th, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm each night of its opening. This gives plenty of time for each family in the community to make a stop, or two, to see the decorations.
