In the Greek Culture, “Yassou” will accompany a twinkle in the eye and a warm smile. Yassou means “welcome” in the warmest possible way in Greek interaction. The 4th Annual Grand Rapids Yassou! Greek Festival is almost here and preparations are happening daily. In a matter of weeks, 36 hours of Greek fun, food, music and dancing are going to be shared with the entire Grand Rapids Region. Folks can hardly wait!
Many people remember the grace and beauty of Greek dance and music made famous by movies and popular songs. “Never on Sunday,” is a famous Greek song that became an international hit when performed by Petula Clark. The dance performed by Anthony Quinn in the movie classic “Zorba the Greek” is unforgettable. This classic song and dance will be performed for sure. Beginning at 5:30 on Friday, the Levendes, a professional Greek dance group will give dance performances in full regalia. Dance and music performances will continue throughout the festival and promise to be captivating. Attendees will have many opportunities to participate, learn Greek dance steps and share the vitality and sincerity of Greek culture. This traditional and exciting family affair is a perfect event for old and young to enjoy together. Yassou! is the ideal occasion for a memorable date with a special person.
Yassou! will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 330 Lakeside Dr. NE between Fulton and Michigan. 1000 parking spaces have been reserved which include spots for handicapped just a few feet from the main admission entrance. Air conditioned vans will be safely transporting attendees to this event from more outlying parking spots. Another transportation option is Bus #14 which off-loads just feet from Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
